History

John R. Henderson, established The Pacific Rim Group in 1986 while living in Hong Kong. John saw an opportunity to assist foreign companies looking to access the Hong Kong market, as well as Asian companies requiring North American management expertise.

In 1994, the Group opened its Vancouver office and substantially expanded its corporate finance and market entry services. Technology consulting and China market evaluations followed shortly after.

In 1999, the Group led the acquisition of a Canadian publicly listed company involved in the international telecommunications equipment business. Mr. Henderson became the President & CEO of the company and successfully turned it around, including raising more than C$10 million.

In 1999, the Group conceived of and developed OneAsia.com, an online e-commerce retailer of Asian entertainment products. As a very early adopter in the e-commerce sector, the company developed one of the first digital download capabilities and broke new ground in the Asian technology sector.  In 2000, OneAsia.com was sold to tom.com, who subsequently undertook a very successful Initial Public Offering.

Since the early 2000’s, the Group has focused on various corporate finance transactions and providing advice and support to its clients and associated corporations.

Managing Director

John R. Henderson, BCom, FCPA, FCA (Canada), FCPA (Hong Kong), ICD.D 

Mr. Henderson is a chartered professional accountant with 40 years of experience in Asia and Canada. He has created successful businesses in the telecommunications, international trade, online sales and financial investment sectors.

He is Managing Director of The Pacific Rim Group, a business advisory and investment organization. John lived in Hong Kong from 1984 to 2003 and continues to have business interests there. In 2003, he chose to move to Sechelt, located on the Sunshine Coast in British Columbia, from where he continues to pursue his passion of creating new and sustainable businesses.

In 2011, Mr. Henderson was elected Mayor of the District of Sechelt. During his three year term as an elected representative, the District successfully completed numerous projects in the community including an innovative and award winning Water Resource Centre (treating wastewater to the highest standards in Canada) which has become a role model for other communities across Canada.

Mr. Henderson is a graduate of the Institute of Corporate Directors and has served as a director of numerous public and private companies in Canada and Asia, including as an Independent Chair for a merged corporation as well as a joint-government entity.

Mr. Henderson has been active in a variety of other community activities including:

  • Chair of the Sechelt & District Chamber of Commerce

  • Chair & President of the Sunshine Coast Community Forest

  • Director of Advantage BC (formerly International Financial Centre of BC)

  • Director of BC Ferries (and member of the Audit and Governance committees)

  • Executive-in-Residence at the Sauder School of Business at UBC in Vancouver

  • Director of the Sunshine Coast Golf & Country Club

  • Chairman of the Canadian Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong (the largest such organization outside of Canada) three times

  • Co-Chair and Director of the Canadian International School of Hong Kong.

  • Governor of the University of British Columbia Alumni Association Branch in Hong Kong.

In 1997, Mr. Henderson was recognized for his contributions to the community by being elected a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of British Columbia, the first time this award has been granted to a recipient living outside of Canada. He was also awarded the “Entrepreneur of the Year” award by the Canadian Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong in 1996. In 2012, Mayor Henderson was awarded the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal for service to the community.

 
 
 
 
 
 

Director

Louisana (Luci) Yau, BBA

Ms. Yau manages Pacific Rim's services in Hong Kong. A native of Hong Kong, she joined Pacific Rim in 1993 and has extensive experience in accounting, public listing activities and China trade.

Luci's expertise in financial services, accounting and company secretarial is concentrated strongly on China related activities, utilizing her fluent English, Cantonese and Mandarin.

Ms. Yau is the past president of the Rotary Club of Bayview Sunshine HK (District 3450). She is the past District Secretary of the District 3450.

Jayne Lau

Mrs. Lau is responsible for Pacific Rim’s accounting and representation services in Vancouver. Born in Guangzhou, China, she relocated to Vancouver, Canada in 1984, where she obtained a certificate of professional accounting in 2000.

Mrs. Lau has over twenty years accounting experience with specific experience in a diverse range of organizations, including real estate, public company, telecoms, e-commerce, import / export, and retailing.

Mrs. Lau is fluent in Cantonese, English and Mandarin.
